Anti-Ligature Products Explained

Products such as mirrors and coat hooks can be constructed in such a way that prevents the potential of an attached ligature. This will lead to a lower risk of self-harm or harm of others.

We have a few different types of anti-ligature hardware to choose from. This includes load release, fixed, and more styles and variations of fixtures and fittings for prison bathrooms and more.

Load Release Anti-Ligature

Load release anti-ligature products should be used in environments with more stable patients who are in better health with no emergency clinical symptoms. They reduce ligature risks by releasing when an excessive load—for example, an attempted ligature—is applied. Common load release anti-ligature hardware includes clothes hooks and more.

Fixed Anti-Ligature 

Items can be constructed as anti-ligature hardware by making them into a shape that is impossible to have something tied around it. A grab bar is one item that is sometimes constructed as fixed anti-ligature. 

Reduce the Risk of Weapons Usage

Another important point to remember is that some fixtures and fittings in medical centers and prison bathrooms can be used as weapons. Thankfully, American Specialties, Inc. has designed products that will reduce this risk or eliminate it altogether. 

Toilet paper holders and other items in hospital or prison bathrooms can be removed quite easily from where they had been originally installed and then be used as a weapon. Tamper-resistant toilet paper holders plus shatterproof mirrors are some examples of how to reduce the prospect of weapon usage in hospitals, correctional facilities, and mental health centers.

Our anti-ligature selection consists of products of the highest grade that were manufactured by American Specialties, Inc. This includes clothes hooks, grab bars, mirrors, hand dryers, and more.

One of the anti-ligature items we offer is the model number 123 clothes hook. This square clothes hook features a satin finish and is composed of type 304 stainless steel. The hook snaps downward for safety reasons when there is an extreme amount of weight put on it.

We also carry grab bars with a closure plate feature for risk prevention. This includes model numbers 159, 162, 164, 165, 166, and 168. Each of these is made of type 304 stainless steel.

We sell mirrors constructed of type 304 stainless steel with ligature resistance features. This includes model numbers 104, 104-14, and 105-14.

We offer two anti-ligature hand dryers: the 0198-MH-1 and the 0198-MH-2. These hand dryers are made to be used in various behavioral health environments. These tamper-resistant dryers are designed to prevent the risk of harm or injury.

The difference between these two hand dryers is the voltage. The 0198-MH-1 has a 115-120 voltage whereas the 0198-MH-2 has a 208-240 voltage. Both of these dryers dry hands quickly and are made of type 304 stainless steel which is heavy-duty and durable.
